How would you define special needs

This event is open to anyone with physical or cognitive special needs, ages 14 and older.  We do not have specific guidelines for the eligibility of guests in relation to the legitimacy or severity of their disabilities.

Where is the event taking place?

2024 Night to Shine will be taking place at the Highland Woods Center,1377 Hart St, Vincennes, IN 47591.

What is the minimum age for Night to Shine guests?

Night to Shine is for anyone with special needs ages 14 and older.  There is no age maximum.

What is the minimum age for volunteers?

All volunteers must be 16 years of age by the date of the event.

What time do doors open for guests?

Doors will open at 3:00p Eastern Time

What time does the on-site hair & make-up open?

The salon will open at 2:00 pm for on-site (at Highland Woods Center) hair and make-up done by one of our professional volunteers. This is a free service for our Kings and Queens but we ask that you make an appointment. When you register please mark that you are interested in this service. Once we receive your registration one of our stylists will call to schedule your appointment. It may be that you will be contacted as late as the week before. If at that time you have not been contacted please email  [email protected] along with your name and contact phone number. You may come dressed for the night or change in one of the large rooms on site.

Where can I go to have my hair done locally?

If noted at the time of registration, you receive a call to schedule an appointment. Salon will open at 1:00p.

Do we need to sign up to utilize the formal wear shop?

If selected at the time of registration, you are already signed up. Dates for this years shop will be: Monday June 3rd 5p – 7p and
Saturday June 8th 10a-1p.

Do you have to purchase formal wear?

All clothing in the formal wear shop is free to all registered Kings or Queens.

Do you require background checks for volunteers?

All volunteers over the age of 18 have to have a Federal Background check.

Do you have a medical and security team on site?

Yes.  We will have a team of certified medical staff as well as uniformed law enforcement officers on site at all times.

Can Night to Shine be on any other night?

The Tim Tebow Foundation requires all churches to host the event on the same date/night to maintain the worldwide feel of the event and make guests feel like they are part of something much bigger than their Night to Shine. This year, an exception was made due to venue scheduling conflicts that allowed us to change the date June 22, 2024. However, next year we are back on track for February 7, 2025.

What will happen in the event of inclement weather?

If there were to be inclement weather that would jeopardize the safety of our guests, volunteers, and caregivers, the Tim Tebow Foundation will allow the event to be rescheduled within two weeks of the original date.

What is a buddy?

Buddies are an escort for the King/Queen.  Their responsibilities include escorting the King/Queen down the red carpet, ensuring photos are taken, he/she participating in any games, dancing, limo rides, and whatever he/she chooses.  Also helps to ensure the King/Queen stays safe during the event.

Will there be anyone to assist guests with bathroom needs?

Yes. There will be gender-specific volunteers to assist with bathroom needs.  The majority of these volunteers generally work in the medical field.

What is the Respite Room?

The Respite Room is a place to honor the incredible parents, family members, and caretakers of our special needs guests.  This room will be an opportunity to rest and enjoy a night off while your guest is off having an amazing time with their buddy.

Where is the Respite Room held?

Respite Room will be held at Bethany Christian Church Vincennes Campus: 2011 Willow Street, Vincennes, IN 47591

Can a guest bring their own buddy?

If a guest would like to bring their own buddy, that is perfectly fine, provided their buddy registers as a volunteer and receives a background check for the safety of all of the honored guests at the event.

What if the guests come as a couple, will they still get a buddy?

Yes.  Each guest will be assigned a buddy when they arrive to assist them throughout the evening.

What if the guest has medication that needs to be taken during the event?

All medication must be administered by a parent/caregiver.
